Beautiful Deborah, and your words give us so much hope for our spiritual future.
🙏🤗✨💜
I believe that the greatest gift God has given us is the freedom of choice—the ability to make our own decisions. Adam fell because of a poor choice, yet God provided redemption through Jesus, who served as the perfect ransom for Adam’s errors. Jesus, too, faced choices, and his strength and dedication to God restored humanity's direction. God did not create automatons; He fashioned thoughtful and compassionate individuals in His image, allowing us the potential to achieve greatness similar to that of Jesus.
f you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Mark 9:23
Thank you for this Charlotte. I love what you say here. Choice is everything. And the life given to us through Jesus is something worth thinking about - but spiritual blindness leads us away from that gift or even thinking about how miraculous the universe is and how we are miracles. It’s truly overwhelming to think about. We take so much for granted. Love you friend. ox
This week I am writing about the miracles of Nisen 17, which is soon upon us. Wiseman so clearly the miracles around me each day. Just looking at a hummingbird and realizing if it weren’t for the hummingbird there were would be no helicopters. Everything we create is borrowed from God, yet He rarely receives credit. Then there are they larger miracles like in my life when I was literally pulled out of a bad situation and God almost immediately sent me to a place to grow spiritually in Him. So many miracles to name for all of us who believe in Him. When you walk with him, he will show you miracles. No doubt. But if you have pushed him away, you don’t see the simple miracles in a hummingbird or the larger ones seen throughout the universe. Just looking in the mirror and seen ourselves is a miracle. Thank you for that, and spreading his word in such meaningful ways as to inspire contemplation in believers and hopefully awaken the spiritually blind. ✨🤗💜🙏🌼
Timshel. I remember reading that passage in East of Eden and being very enthralled. This was such a beautiful post, Deb. I love your gorgeous rubber tree! If I was a mama hummer I’d live there, too. Truly a miracle, as your granddaughter said. Thank you for this beauty, this uplift. ❤️
Oh Jenn thank you for taking the time to read this. The very first thing we saw when we walked into our home with the realtor was the Rubber Tree through the lanai window. I stopped and a hummer mama was sitting in her nest. It took my breath away. And John, who was very hesitant to move, said, “now don’t get carried away.” I had fallen off a 6 ft ladder over a hummer nest at the old house and the recovery was long. This was the first of many signs that we were meant to live in this house. So many gifts from God and the unexpected ties to my parent’s small town in Oregon are part of this home. With all the renovation the hummers didn’t come around for awhile. And finally, the last few years a mama has adopted the tree and has built her nests. Truly a miracle. oxox
That is amazing! The house was meant for you. What a beautiful story. I’m so glad the mama came back. What joy she brings, and evidence of God’s goodness.
This is so beautiful especially during the weekend when you can pause and reflect1 yes people are just doing anything for attention. In discombobulating times we are in with D.A.I.C aka digital artificial intelligence complex.
I like it so much that I included it immediately in Crown Valley Quarterly - it's a section of my blog that showcases my favorite authors and painters and other artists and other talented people like you who radiate goodness and light.
Douglas! I finally sat down this lovely Sunday afternoon in SoCal and just got done looking through your awesome Wordpress! I feel so incredibly honored that you would post Timshel there! Thank you so much! Made my day! I love your blog and your writing! I really miss my dad, who passed away on New Years Day 2021 - and it’s days like today that I think, “wow, dad would have loved this person.” Like you! An aerospace engineer for 35 years! What an incredible background. We are British immigrants and dad brought mom and I here to America to pursue the aviation industry as an amp mechanic - We came with nothing but a few thousand pounds dad saved from selling all their wedding gifts and things and working hard. I recently found all his polite letters asking for green cards, hoping we could come and his desires to find work. He ended up at Santa Monica Airport, commuting by bus and worked on Jimmy Stewart’s private plane and other movie stars planes and then there was a dip in aviation and he ended up at Disney on the backlot of Mapo, in Burbank, running the welding shop, where Roy Disney would visit. Dad ended up leading a team, in Florida, after Disney World opened, building all the track for Space Mountain. He specialized in pneumatics and brakes. The story about that is pretty incredible. Dad made his way back into aviation for many years, after 15 with Disney, and ended up with Dunlap Aviation, based in Coventry, England. He was the American brakes/tire specialist for them, testing every single aircraft landing that Dunlap provided brakes and tires for! He finally wore a suit we’d say! He loved America but it was getting frustrating for him to see the unrest. Anyways, I had to tell you this - because I always think I am so blessed to meet so many interesting and accomplished people here and how my dad would be so fascinated. He’d probably be an avid reader of Substack and might have contributed. He is where I got my passion for photography from.
Thank you again Douglas. Have a great week and God Bless. ox
Thank you so much Marsha! And yes, we left her nest in the tree for a few months after the babies flew. Then we read they do not come back and re-use their nests. They build from scratch each time :). It's miraculous as if they know how much room they will need. It's either one or two eggs. Plus this little nest was drowning in bird poop and regurgitated food! lol.
Thank you so much Henry! The world can feel so sad and angry. It's important to lean into the good. I recently bought a book called Night Magic: Adventures Among Glowworms, Moon Gardens, and Other Marvels of the Dark. We're raised to believe that darkness is scary but there is nature and all of God's creativity even at night. I see the name of your Substack is "A Curious Light." How fitting :) ox
Thank you for writing this incredible story. It is beautifully written and powerful.
I was a child of the ’60s and ’70s, and I can relate to your heart more because we were influenced by the same things.
I agree with Vi. “Nana, this is a mi-wi-cal.”
We are all miracles of God, who made us and all living things from His Love.
Psalm 139:13-14 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Larry, thank you for blessing me too!! I'm glad to know you related. It's not that the 60's/70's didn't have it's events, we just never saw people taking things too far.
We truly are mi-wi-cals! surrounded by miracles (like that little ladybug granddaughter of mine!). His Love is everywhere. I am so happy you put Psalm 139 here - I should have used it! Have a lovely Sunday. ox
Love this article!
Thank you Alex, for your support and inspiration always :) ox

"Nature doesn’t exist for it’s own selfish conflicts. It exists for harmony and balance."
So true. Us humans could learn a lot from it's "mi-wi-cal's"
The amazing Vi Vi's words of wisdom ❤❤❤
We learn so much from children and nature. Miss Ladybug is very wise.
A little sponge presently. Thank you my favorite brother. Love you. ox
What a powerful, beautiful article!

Oh thank you so much friend!! And yes, I spent today outside working in the garden and walking the dogs :)
Too funny! "Discombobulating times!" Most definitely upsidedown with a case of DAIC :)
Have a great Sunday! ox
You sound like you had a wonderful weekend. That is so cool! I only tune out on Sundays. go for a walk and write if something comes randomly.

Thank you Jim! That means a lot coming from you. ox
Thank you for this. Beautiful
Thank you for reading it Holly. ox
Beautiful.
Thank you so much Jim!
Lovely, thank you.
Just a thought re the sweet hummer mama -she will most likely repurpose her nest next year, saving her all the energy of. building anew.

Thanks, Deborah, for letting me know about the science of not reusing the nest. That makes sense to me.😊
Very much enjoyed this piece. Much to think about, leaning into the good.
