Bon lecon, d'ailleurs I think we should treat God as higher than an employer, though that said we artists and writers are kind of in a way directly employed by him and thus owe even greater allegiance to him to my mind. Good article.

Beautifully summarized and touches on something a lot of Christians think about and struggle with on a daily basis. Good for you for packing this one up so nicely

Thanks, glad it made sense!

This so resonates. As I cleared my diary to spend 3 months writing a book last year, He kept saying: I'm your client! As a business owner that made so much sense to me and it's now something I regularly remind myself

Oh that’s an amazing testimony, when we know this then things seem so different and decision making is more clear

Love that!

It's really important to realize that whatever your job might be, you're doing a ministry. Some believers fear they work in a bank, they don't serve God, for example.

I have a conflicting relationship with the concept of God, but I try to put myself in others' shoes and cultivate forethought and empathy, even when I don't understand (we don't always!). Thanks for this reminder!

Have you read Noor's biography, Codename Madeleine? It's interesting the complexities of this question are explored in the context of World War 2, albeit from a Sufi perspective. One example is a French Resistante who works in a factory but uses that role to undermine the Nazis covertly. Is he honoring God as his employer even if he is going behind his human employer's back? Who is your neighbor? Is the one who also scratches your back, or is the one others in your "in group" judge and condemn? What if your human employer tells you to do something you know from the Holy Spirit is not right for you to do. Blind obedience has always been a failure of the Christian Church since it fell into the hands of the Church fathers and excluded the Church Mothers. Yeshua himself in a peaceful way refused to blindly comply.

Jesus was always strongly against authority, so I agree completely, God always comes first regardless of what society might want from us.

Indeed.

Nice article, love the idea of God being my employer, after all it's his fault ;) that I have to write mythological and fantasy serial novels hahaha. It's all because- I mean thanks to him I'm here (I'm speaking lightly, despite my strong gratitude to him).

Expand full comment

haha I know, you for sure got to get some huge novels out!

Expand full comment

Hahaha thanks, and two of the books are to be tiny 100 pagers, but I'm working on a big 1,200 pager (Darkspire Conspiracy) just have to put it through grammarly now in preparation for tmw. I'll tag you if you want, when I post it.

Going to be great, I have some very short books too and some long ones, good to mix it up

Expand full comment

Yeah! Short ones are good practice, and also for building up one's portfolio/reputation while large ones are good to truly push one's talents to the limit. I like to compare short-stories, novellas and short-novels to sonatas and long form novels and epics to Symphonies.

I love this, God is my employer! Corporations attack the spirit, it took me a while to relinquish mine while still keeping a steady paycheck. But I’m glad I know better now.

I think that should be "teachings".

I can edit your posts for free, if you wish.

I'm serious about the free editing. I'm not a professional editor, but I would like to be. I have a good eye for typos.

Expand full comment

That would be cool, I’ll look up how to do it in settings. Have you edited full books or novellas before?

Expand full comment

No, only shorter works. But I see no reason I couldn't do a complete book.

I live in the Dominican Republic with a Haitian family. They do all the housework and cooking, and I have lots of time on my hands. I pay a lot of their expenses.

I'm a retired software designer.

Expand full comment

That’s really interesting, do you write about it?

Expand full comment

Oh, sorry. This previous reply didn't save.

I wrote about my situation on my Facebook page, and was praised. I wrote about it in a "Dominican" subreddit, and I was called a troll and a pedophile.

So I guess I won't say too much publicly.

So far I like Substack much better than Reddit.
