I once had a teacher at university who told his students that it was a pleasure for him to smell books. I identified with that a lot, even though most of my colleagues thought he was just crazy.

In my country, 30 years ago, anyone who read was some kind of freak

I’d get along with the teacher haha

I also have some real books on the go all the time, and even love the slow process of reading and turning pages, book held in my hands. And I love to support my local bookstore too.

I can relate! I always keep a book in my bag too.

I absolutely agree, Alexander. When I go to a book store I’m in my happy place. The smell of the pages, the excitement of looking for just a few perfect ones to buy. And then I save them for the perfect time and take them out and choose my next book. It gives me the great feeling of starting something new with the author.

I did a reading today, with others, marking the 100th anniversary of the publication of "Billy Budd." There were a few folks using iPhones. But most had a well-worn physical book. When I got up to read, the feel of my hard-cover Everyman's Library version made me feel like I was holding a musical instrument.

I still enjoy a physical book

Agreed! We haven't been on lots of vacations as a family, other than camping, but on the trips we have taken, some of my daughter's favorite memories are the bookstores we've visited. Her favorite thus far is a small bookstore near the ocean in Mendocino, California. Lots of light, books she'd never seen, and a bookstore cat. Perfection for her.

That’s so special! I love places like that, some of my favorite times as well.

There’s nothing better than getting lost in a book. Suddenly the words disappear as my mind teleports me into the story unfolding in front of me. There’s just nothing like it!

Love this! I have started occasionally listening to audiobooks, but nothing replaces reading a physical book. There is something very special about it!

My husband doesn't understand my preference for an actual book held in hand. That's ok. He's moved boxes and boxes of books multiple times across the country. True love.

And our son stops in almost every bookstore that his path takes him by. #raisedright

My closet is filled with books on the shelf that are waiting to be read. It's been awhile since I've been to a bookstore, but I do love going into them. When I was a young girl I used to go to the library often by my self to take books out of the library. I'd have a whole bunch, finish them up then go back for more.

Reading the Good Book is of course the best, and it is still the best seller, and lots of people died so that we could get a physical copy of the Bible to read.

William Tyndale was one of the first to publish the Bible in English and famously said "“If God spare my life, ere many years I will cause a boy who drives a plough to know more of the scriptures than you do.”- talking to the Pope.

― William Tyndale

He was murdered by the Pope not many years later, but not after the Bible was published and became a major tool for the protestant reformation.

Today we have similar persecution of those who express the truth of scripture, we need similar courage and faith in order to keep the words of God in print and in every other media.

I think that reading a book and holding a physical copy in your hands has the same effect on one's nervous system as grounding or forest bathing. We should make a study!!!

That would be a good study, haha, what’s even better is reading a book while being in nature or by the ocean!
