The Hobbit, LOTR, Dune, Armor by John Steakley, Starship Troopers, The Golden Compass by Pullman, The Broken Sword by Poul Anderson, Conan (the anthology of the first stories by R. E. Howard,) The War of the Worlds by HG Wells, and Stephen King's The Gunslinger (only the first book...the rest of the series degenerated into utter trash.)
Thanks Alexander, great list! FYI I think the book that has influenced my life, or I should say my Christian life, is "The Brothers Karamazov" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing this. It's always nice to know what books influence people. Now I am inspired to write my own post about the books which inspired me! Dune will definitely make my list as it is my all time favorite sci-fi book. I was also moved by Brave New World and found Silence to be very thought provoking - have you seen the movie? I always enjoy reading Sherlock Holmes and the Witcher books - they are great fun! Of course, we all love Lord of the Rings and I saw the I am Legend movie which I enjoyed - I didn't know there was a book. I haven't read any Lovecraft but have heard good things - so I definitely should. The other two I haven't read so maybe I will check them out too.
Basically everyone who is part of the society only care about feeling high. They all get injected with drugs and have no real emotions, everything is regulated. They do their tasks, drugs, everyone has sex with everyone. Then there is portion of society they call “savages”, actually people who refused to take drugs, but did go crazy in the wilderness. One guy from “savages” reads Shakespeare and dreams of romance, ends up falling in love with a woman from the city, who doesn’t understand what he means by “love” or emotions. Don’t want to spoil the rest, but that’s the base of it.
Not so sure Brave New World is fiction!!
Thank you! Although I have read quite a few, I will for sure be looking some up.
Nice!
Huxley was a undisputed genius in my opinion.
100%
I agree
I have read 3, 4, 5 and 7
Hi! Happy belated birthday!! ✨
Thank you!
These are the ones I read over and over.
My top ten books:
The Hobbit, LOTR, Dune, Armor by John Steakley, Starship Troopers, The Golden Compass by Pullman, The Broken Sword by Poul Anderson, Conan (the anthology of the first stories by R. E. Howard,) The War of the Worlds by HG Wells, and Stephen King's The Gunslinger (only the first book...the rest of the series degenerated into utter trash.)
Starship Troopers is great, haha
My most influential books (that I can recall):
Man’s Search for Meaning - Victor Frankl
Atomic Habits - James Clear
Integrity - Dr. Henry Cloud
Wilmington’s Lie - David Zucchino
The Social Contract - Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Love Cloud’s work
The Frankl book is life changing
Tolkien is an essential! 🤌
Looks like an interesting list
Are they all fiction?
Silence is based on real events

Thanks, I’d love to see your list!
Happy Birthday, Alexander! I hope you're having a fantastic day!
Thank you!
Solid list!
I've been meaning to write about Huxley. Does he talk about living lightly in that book?

I could never get past the first few chapters, too depressing!
