The most important woman that ever lived
Hey friends,
I saw a newspaper article in the ads online about “Most important women that ever lived.” I went into comments sections and looked at the answers from various users. As a Christian, to me this would be a no brainer, but in fact I did not see a SINGLE person put the name I had in mind. I’m sure many of those who commented were Christians.
There are people who will say names of queens and politicians, such as Elizabeth, Thatcher, Clinton. Others will put names of famous judicial system women such as Ginsburg. Some will mention great scientists, space pioneers. Even singers, actresses and athletes get a lot of mentions.
However, how did we as Christians in US get to the point where mother of God, Mary, doesn’t even get a mention.
Answer is simple, she is even ignored in our own churches. We will know names of youtube pastors and mention them often. We will know every apostle very well.
The woman that was chosen by God? The woman who is possibly the most heroic person in the Bible? Does not deserve even a mention?
We will hear pastors talk about their personal issues, cuz that’s so important right!
Let’s look at the simple facts from the Gospels and Christian history that should make us scratch our head as to how this is fine.
Mary was chosen by God to give birth to God, Jesus. She had to go through incredible trials, especially in those times as a woman. After giving birth, she raised Jesus.
Can we honestly say that ANY person in human history knew God better than her? She literally raised Jesus and lived with him from year 1 to 33. Is there anyone who heard more of Jesus’s wisdom than her?
That’s one. Let’s look more.
Mary was there as a mother when Jesus was tortured, carried the cross and was crucified. She stayed with him till his death. Unlike most, who ran. Cleaned his wounds after. Wrapped him in the very cloth that we possibly still have today.
The saints of the old church also claim that Jesus showed himself first to both Mary Magdalene and his mother Mary.
So how important is Mary compared to a tennis champion, or some politician?
Really does sound like there should be no comparison, don’t you think?
We should not worship Mary, such is very clear, however, how about paying attention to her at least as much as you’d do to your favorite singers life…or If you find yourself thinking a pastor with a cool book out is more important, I personally think that is the wrong path.
What do you think?
Blessings.
